More Gold For Lester Vaughan
Under 13 Netball Queens!
Tuesday 16th June 2015 became another positive mark in the history of the school. Our under 13 netball players were able to not only stamp their authority on the Barbados Secondary Schools Under 13 competition, but also produce the most valuable player of the tournament - Vivica Addison. This squad of girls dominated the preliminary rounds and defeated Foundation in the semi-finals, before beating Coleridge & Parry 9 - 7 in the finals, played at the netball stadium.
This victory culminated only a phase in their journey, as they are now looking forward to several more tournament wins, considering that they are quite young. Their journey to the top began in August 2014 when they competed in the Barbados Workers Union competition and finished 3rd in their zone. Following this, they continued to train during lunch and after school in preparation for the ultimate. Practice matches were played against teams such as The Alleyne School, teams from England and Trinidad and also West Terrace Primary school. The girls now have their sights set on winning the First Form Girls Competition. They, along with the older girls, currently play in the BNA league on weekends. This helps them to develop better game strategies. The hard work and commitment of their coach and manager Miss. Rochelle Browne (P.E. teacher) cannot be overlooked, as she took over the work started by Miss. Jennifer Smith (now at the Alleyne School). It is also of note that the team expresses gratitude to all those who supported and / or assisted them in reaching this point. These persons include parents & other relatives, members of staff including the principal - Mr. M. Boyce, Mr. Babb and Mr. Mapp. Miss. Smith also continued to lend her assistance along with Miss. King and Miss. Latonia Blackman. Much thanks are also given to God for the blessings He bestowed on these players as they look toward the continual support from all concerned. |
Cricket Team Easter Visit To Trinidad
Over the Easter holidays our cricketers spend some days in Trinidad, where they played a number of matches against some school teams. At least one of these matches was played in the night - a new experience for them. They also had to adjust to playing against teams with majority spin bowlers. From all reports they enjoyed themselves and are looking forward to similar experiences in the future. Click on this link to view pictures of tour |

Leadership Camp | April 9-12, 2015
Leadership camp saw 19 Lester Vaughan School students, 1 Combermere student and 1 Lodge School student come together at the Nazarene Camp site in St. Patricks, St. Phillip for 4 days of leadership and teambuilding training as well as developing themselves as individuals and as leaders. Through a host of activities and interactive sessions facilitated by skilled and qualified individuals, campers gained insight into decision making, dealing with conflict, drug awareness, personal development, leadership development, the importance of team, vision and truly knowing one's self. Camp was also a time of fun and fellowship, making new friends and good food. Though not a Christian camp, day 2 was an awesome day to behold, through the analogy of the “monkey culture” of following blindly behind others, the calling out of individuals to be real with themselves and through personal testimony. Nineteen campers recommitted themselves to The Lord and 1 camper gave his life to The Lord. Camp saw students like Aisha Holder step up in areas that showed her growth. Her transparency about herself brought fresh perspective and inspired those around her to excel pass their comfort zone. Though tiring, camp staff gave 100% and still found time and energy to have a little fun. Camp was hosted by Camp Director and Whole Life Coach Nigel Jules of the Lester Vaughan School Peer Supporters Programme and the Guidance Department of the Lester Vaughan School. Speech Day - March 2015
The annual speech day was held on 31 March 2015 and again provided the opportunity for the school to showcase the achievements of the students during the year 2013-2014. Persons attending were welcomed by the chairman of the Board of Management, Mr. E. Tull, while Captain Boyce presented his first report as the principal of the school. The report showed that despite whatever negatives the school faced during the year - including the death of former principal - Ms. D. Wilson, the school continued to produce much fruit. The report also noted that a number of teachers have upgraded their skills and qualifications. The most outstanding of the achievers were able to walk across the platform and receive their awards. The Featured speaker was a past student Mr. Durand Blackett, who spoke quite eloquently yet in a manner which held the attention of the students and others present. In his speech he sought to convince the students that they have what it takes to be successful even against the odds. He made the point that they must have a goal which will guide their approach to education and that through commitment and perseverance, they can achieve. Entertainment was by the school's choir and the CXC Theatre Arts group. The awards included: Outstanding work & exemplary conduct (Junior school) - Shundell Wharton; Best all-round students- Michelle Springer, Kiara Riley & Michael Nicholls; Punctuality, dedication & perseverance - Gabriel Aimey-Hill; Most outstanding student in external examinations - Tamesha Griffith; Contribution to the life of the school through sports, culture, extra-curriculum activities & leadership - Rivaldo Leacock. |

It feels great to be Number 1!
The stadium was painted green as the students of this school showed their worth on the field and on the track. At the end of five days of great but friendly rivalry, the true champions rose to the top (the boys) while the future champions (the girls) continue to make their way through the field finishing at fifth position. The effort was commendable and every one of the competitors deserve the praise for a job well done.
We continue to see the production of national athletes such Rivaldo Leacock, Stephen Griffith, Michael Nicholls and Kalvin Marcus. These students follow the likes of Dario Alleyne, Ryan Brathwiate, Kierre Beckles, Ramon Gittens, Liann Kellman and others. Several others are in waiting, and in time we will see them emerging to make a name for themselves, their school and their country.
Many thanks go to the training / coaching team headed by Mr. Alwyn Babb, and heart felt congratulations to all the athletes on their achievements. We are together looking forward to bigger and better things in all areas of the school. (WP)

New Scout Troop Formed - February 2015
History was created this term when the inaugural investiture ceremony of the Lester Vaughan Scout troop took place.
Eleven boys ranging in age from 11-13 said their scout promise and became the newest scout troop in the Northern District of the Barbados Boy Scout Association.
Assistant Chief Commisioner, Ms Suzette Clarke, teacher and scout leader said it was a bitter-sweet moment since it was the vision of the late Principal, Ms Diana Wilson to have a scout troop at the school and "she would have been extreme proud to see her dream realised".
The momentous occasion was witnessed by officials of the BBSA, teachers, parents, friends of scouting and students.
